Saving Lives, Shaping Futures: Protecting Yemen’s Children, Preserving the Future of Knowledge
The Gift Foundation has launched a vital Emergency Malnutrition Treatment Project to support children suffering from severe acute malnutrition in Yemen - a country enduring one of the most severe humanitarian crises in the world.
Nourishment as the First Step to Knowledge
At the heart of the Gift Foundation’s mission lies the belief that every seeker of knowledge must first be a survivour of hunger. Restoring health is not only an act of compassion - it is an investment in future learning, understanding, and leadership. By saving these young lives today, we are nurturing tomorrow’s students, scholars, and changemakers who will carry forward the light of knowledge.
A Lifeline of Nourishment and Care
The Gift Foundation’s Emergency Malnutrition Treatment Project aims to deliver comprehensive, sustained support to malnourished children in Yemen. The initiative combines therapeutic feeding with ongoing medical supervision, helping children regain strength, rebuild immunity, and recover from the devastating effects of hunger.
The project uses internationally recognised therapeutic milk formulas (F75 and F100) to treat severe acute malnutrition in two key phases:
F75 - a stabilisation formula that prepares a child’s metabolism and restores basic organ function.
F100 - a rehabilitation formula that supports steady weight gain and full recovery.
Beyond immediate treatment, the project promotes nutritional awareness, maternal support, and sustainable recovery, addressing the root causes of malnutrition and giving children a chance to grow and thrive.
Restoring Hope in Yemen
This initiative reflects the Foundation’s enduring commitment to compassion, dignity, and empowerment - guided by the Prophet’s prayer:
“O Allah! Bestow Your blessings on our Sham! O Allah! Bestow Your blessings on our Yemen.”
A Nation in Crisis
Peter Hawkins, UNICEF Representative to Yemen, said that “Approximately 2.4 million children under the age of five and 1.5 million pregnant and lactating women suffer from acute malnutrition in Yemen, placing them at greater risk of illness, developmental delays, and death.” (source: United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), https://www.wfp.org/news/acute-food-insecurity-deepens-government-controlled-areas-yemen-amid-severe-funding-cuts-and)
Recent data reveals that Yemen is now the world's third biggest food crisis, with half of its population facing hunger, and nearly half of all children under five suffering from chronic malnutrition. Years of conflict have devastated the nation’s food systems, displaced millions, and crippled healthcare infrastructure - leaving families unable to access even the most basic nutrition or medical care.
It is estimated that one child dies every ten minutes from preventable causes linked to hunger, malnutrition, or lack of treatment. Yemen’s youngest generation faces a crisis of survival that threatens to shape the country’s future for decades.
